I don't see why not. But the plural of "virus" is "viruses", which no one contests and has been sort of made official by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses, the world's recognised authority. I agree with your distaste for “virii”. You will be pleased to hear that the article on plurals of “-us” does not suggest that, but favors “viruses”.
